National Tourism Week

     Let's put our collective industry manpower to work for a week of giving back to our community! Sonoma County Lodging Association and Sonoma County Tourism have joined together to provide just that opportunity with Sonoma County - TOURISM CARES. We are offering a full menu of volunteer opportunities that will take place during National Tourism Week. These volunteer opportunities allow you, individually or as part of a work team, to make a difference in our communities. Only requirement is a passion for making Sonoma County a better community for us all. Team leaders may sign up entire team for any of the opportunities below.

     Does your team already support a local school or nonprofit? Would you like to support our Sonoma County - TOURISM CARES efforts too? Simply let us know (Amy Crabb) what your team is doing as a volunteer project during the week of May 8 by emailing your information to us. We will make sure you are included in all of the fun!

Volunteer Opportunities include:

Community Action Partnership Head Start and Early Head Start

Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County partners with the community to empower low income families through community engagement, health and wellness, education and financial stability strategies.

Activity:  Up to three volunteers needed each shift to help finish up the school year by assembling packets.

Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary and Education Center

Goatlandia is an animal sanctuary that rescues farm animals and educates the public about the choice for a compassionate lifestyle.

Activity: Farm Animal Love: Build and Clean Day! Up to 10 volunteers are needed per shift to clean pastures, the barn and coops and build a gym set. There will be time for brushing animals too!

Location: 2336 Olivet Lane, Santa Rosa

Additional information: Liability waiver will need to be signed prior to volunteering, no one under 18 may volunteer without prior approval by the management.

Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. We envision a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Activity: Up to 40 volunteers are need to help pour concrete for and install bike lock bars, paint parking lanes, clear invasive bamboo and paint.

Location: The Palms Inn: Housing for the Homeless, 3345 Santa Rosa Ave, Santa Rosa

Additional information: The Palms is an old inn which has been adapted into permanent supportive housing for homeless individuals with an emphasis on Veterans.

LITE Initiatives / Community Bikes

Lite Initiatives' mission is to motivate individuals, groups, businesses and even whole communities to live lightly and more efficiently. We do this by focusing on DIY (do-it-yourself) knowledge and skill development, outreach, education and fun!

Activity: Up to six volunteers per shift are needed to help with sizing and inventory of their bicycles. No bike experience necessary!

Location: 4019 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa


  • May 12, 1-5 pm

Pepperwood Preserve

Pepperwood Preserve's mission is to advance science-based conservation throughout our region and beyond.

Activity: Up to 25 volunteers per shift are needed to help maintain happy, diverse habitat for plants and animals by removing some of Pepperwood's noxious invaders – including invasive Radish and Mustard.

Location: 2130 Pepperwood Preserve Rd., Santa Rosa – Mark West area

Additional information: Volunteers will be working outside on the beautiful landscape of Pepperwood Preserve. Volunteers should bring a bottle for water and sturdy shoes.  Snacks will be provided.

Pony Express Rocks

The Pony Express is a community-based organization dedicated to mentoring kids and committed to creating life skill and leadership learning opportunities through the use of horses as teachers, healers, and agents of change.

Activity:  Up to ten volunteers per shift are needed to help with arena beautification including fence repair, painting and weed clearing.

Location: 6413 Sonoma Hwy., in Santa Rosa

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul

In the spirit of service, love and justice, and representing the dignity of those we serve, the Saint Vincent de Paul Sonoma County provides compassionate, individualized assistance to help our neighbors-in-need obtain nutritious food, clothing and many of life’s necessities while moving toward systemic change and solutions that help lift them out of poverty.   

Activity: Up to six volunteers are needed to help serve meals to the homeless, including set up and clean up.

Location: 610 Wilson St., Santa Rosa


  • Saturday, May 13, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

Sonoma County Regional Parks

Sonoma County Regional Parks offer spectacular settings to explore whether you like to hike, camp, picnic, bike or simply take in the views.

Activity: see descriptions below, each work date is different.

Additional information: Regional Parks provides all the tools and supplies necessary to complete these projects. We also supply gloves, water and snacks and waive the parking fees. 


May 8, 9 am – 12 pm

Riverfront Regional Park, 7821 Eastside Road, Healdsburg

5 – 25 volunteers

Work with park staff to improve the Redwood Grove at this wonderful river park. You’ll help spread mulch, remove invasive plants, and even install split rail fencing to protect this beautiful spot. Volunteers will park near the Redwood Grove at the end of the entry driveway.

May 10, 9 am – 12 pm

Spring Lake Park , 393 Violetti Drive, Santa Rosa

9am – noon

5 – 25 volunteers

Join park staff as we remove invasive plants from this popular Regional Park. This work is similar to weeding, although the plants are a bit larger than your garden variety weed. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot near the swimming lagoon.

May 13, 9 am – 12 pm

Doran Park, 201 Doran Beach Road, Bodega Bay

10 – 50 volunteers

Help staff clean up Doran Beach. This two mile section of beach hosts hundreds of thousands of visitors throughout the year. With your help, we can keep it free of litter and other trash. Volunteers will meet at the Cypress Parking lot, the first paved lot on your left as you drive into the park.
